Defining Success // Back to the Basics //semi-personal post.

Recently I've found myself asking some uncomfortable questions like, "What does success mean to me?" or "How closely is my identity tied in with Patchwork Planning?" Things that I wouldn't normally ask myself. I mean, who wants to answer them?

After three shoots in three weeks, with other days filled with meetings, answering e-mails, phone calls and other real life things, I can finally have a break. But in this downtime, I've noticed that I'm catching myself thinking, "am I doing enough? Is there something else I should be doing?" Because this break, to me, if I'm not doing anything, am I not being as successful as I am when I'm busy?

Timelines and Checklists

After looking for, and customizing so many engagement timelines, I've decided it's time to create my own. Because when your list says book your vendors 8 months ahead of time, you'll be lucky if you get any of your top choices.

What do I mean? Pinterest search 12 Month Wedding Checklist. On one I'm looking at right now it says "discuss menu ideas with your caterer." Guess when the list suggests that should be done? 4-5 Months before your wedding. Are they crazy? I'm working with a bride getting married July of 2017 and we're working on menu choices. That's 14 months out, not 4.

As a bride, I know how overwhelming it is to be e-mailing four caterers, three photographers and of course, multiple planners.
