When it rains, it pours...
"Do I need a back-up plan?" Yes. Always yes.
As the past few weekends have been proof, you need a back-up plan. At any time depending on your location it could rain, thunderstorm, snow, or even worse, have a hurricane, tornado, wild fire, etc. In Pennsylvania, we have little natural disasters, but we have plenty of unpredictable weather. So what can you do to be prepared?
Thankfully Emily and Shami rented a tent, after it rained all morning then turned windy and cold at night!
1. Rent a tent. Whether it's an "on call" tent (placing a deposit in case of inclement weather), or a "no matter what" reception tent to calm your worst fears of rain on your wedding day. You can also add sides, which could block out wind and rain! It's to note to have your coordinator keep the tent companies phone number on handy just in case inclement weather is on the radar. They can come out and reinforce poles, etc to make sure in the worst weather your event will go off fine.
2. Pick a venue that has an indoor/outdoor ceremony and reception site. That way, no matter the weather you will be covered (pun intended.) Also, be sure to ask the venue coordinator what is typically done in case of bad weather. They are experienced and can definitely help come up with the best back up plan for their venue.
3. Have fun umbrellas on hand for photos! Put those heels down and replace with your favorite rain boots. Did it snow the morning of your wedding? Have some fun with a post-ceremony snowball fight. Change your perspective and you'll find what you most dreaded on your wedding day (rain, etc) can make it even more memorable (in a good way) for you and your guests.
4. Get wedding insurance. Wedding insurance can cover as little or as much as you would like it to. Having a winter wedding? Insurance would come in handy if the morning of your wedding there was a blizzard. It would also take care of a summer wedding where a thunderstorm could possibly take out that tent you so smartly rented.
There's no way to predict the weather. I've seen rainy forecasts clear in 15 minutes, but I've also seen clouds roll in when it was supposed to be 0% chance of precipitation. The most you can do is be prepared, and if it rains, it rains. Your marriage won't be any less official. And in fact it will quickly teach you and your new spouse to be adaptable to different circumstances that will come up!
